11:45 pm: The Rock Band 3 setlist is confirmed
So, the Rock Band 3 setlist is confirmed: http://rockbandaide.com/rb3-setlist/

Here are the extremely awesome songs, in my opinion (alphabetical by band)

Chicago – 25 or 6 to 4
David Bowie – Space Oddity
Dire Straits – Walk of Life
The Doors – Break On Through

Jimi Hendrix – Crosstown Traffic
Lynyrd Skynyrd – Free Bird
The Police – Don’t Stand So Close To Me
Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody
Smash Mouth – Walkin’ on the Sun
Tears for Fears – Everybody Wants to Rule the World

And here are some more that I think will also be cool or fun:

Big Country – In a Big Country
The Cure – Just Like Heaven
Deep Purple – Smoke on the Water
Devo – Whip It
Doobie Brothers – China Grove
Elton John – Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)
Foreigner – Cold as Ice

Whitesnake – Here I Go Again
The Who – I Can See For Miles

*The lead singer of the band Rilo Kiley is Jenny Lewis, who played the girl in the movie The Wizard

There are quite a few more songs on there that I just haven't heard, but the only one on there that I have heard and don't really like is Rehab by Amy Winehouse... which I'm sure some people will enjoy, but I don't.

Again, I suggest that you read the full story of Pyrasaur's To Each A Tempo before playing this map, but you'll be forgiven if you don't. The map has a brief "Intro Comic" that gives you just enough information. It was a bit of a twisted pleasure to condense the elaborate story of To Each A Tempo into something that matches EBA's frantic pace... I especially enjoyed condensing the "decisive witness testimony" down to two lines. :p

Download osu! here, register an account, and then download the map!

If you find the mouse controls a bit perplexing at the start, check out the "Mod Selection" menu. There you'll find not only the Difficulty Reduction modifiers ("Easy" mode makes the circles bigger, the approach circles slower, and the HP drain lower, while NoFail simply... stops you from failing), but also the special modifiers, which are great for beginners, including "Relax Mode" in which you move the mouse but don't have to click, and "AutoPilot Mode" in which you click, but don't have to move the mouse. You don't have to worry about failing in any of those modes. If you still find that too nerve-wracking, you could use the "Auto" mod to watch a perfect playthrough, or click any of the names on the leaderboard on the left, and watch their replay.

If you can't be bothered to try osu! at all, I know some people are making YouTube videos now, so I'll add links to those when I know they're up.

Credits are displayed at the ending of the map, but maximal thanks go to m980, who did both the actual charting/mapping of the song, and the coding of the storyboard.

Enjoy!

12:20 am: There's nothing you can sing that can't be sung
I just watched Across the Universe. I had rented it from Blockbuster, with one of those passes where you can return it before it's due and swap it for another movie. So tomorrow I'll go and swap it out.

And then I'm going to buy it.

10:17 pm: Great news, everyone!
Monkey Island is back!
LucasArts, as rumored, are making an HD version of the original game, with hand-drawn 2D graphics and full voice-overs (starring at least the same voice for Guybrush as the last couple games)

Check out the video here: LucasArts Monkey Island site

Perhaps more interestingly, Telltale Games (who made the new Sam & Max series, the Strong Bad games, and the current Wallace and Gromit games) are making a new Monkey Island series as well! (Also starring the real Guybrush voice!)

More info here: Telltale Monkey Island site The trailer there isn't too good, but the concept art is nice, and the "Team" page has some impressive credentials on it. Ron Gilbert was also consulted.

Finally, on a not-exciting-pirate-news note, the Beatles: Rock Band trailer looks great. Seems like a lot of song-specific effects are going into it, which is great.

12:11 am: osu! on iPhone (actually iPod Touch) with stylus
Thought you guys might appreciate some gameplay videos:

Mr Brightside: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11Br0kEiC9g
Girlfriend and Tom Sawyer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKUG7H3ZPVs
I'm On A Boat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ql4ibmr9_Js

With the Pogo stylus especially, playing osu! on a touch screen feels a lot like a certain sort of DS game. :)

03:19 am: Failchess
After all these years, they finally make an officially licensed Super Mario chess set. Let's take a look at the character choices, shall we? They're different than what I would have chosen. We'll start with the highest ranking and precede down the list until we find a complete travesty:

1. The king is Mario. Good choice.
2. The queen is Luigi. While I would have ... picked ...

WHAT THE FUCK

04:24 pm: Song titles that should be Cowboy Bebop episodes
I'm tired of loading up LJ and seeing that picture of my face, so here's something that will take up lots of vertical space without much effort on my part: Badass song titles that would make cool Cowboy Bebop episode titles. My top 2 are "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Sympathy for the Devil," and those were already in the show. So now I'll make up my own:

-Smoke on the Water
-Moonage Daydream
-Stairway to Heaven (duuuuuuuuuhhhh)
-Radio Nowhere
-Black Magic Woman
-Riders on the Storm
-Spanish Castle Magic
-Mean Woman Blues
-Stone in Love
-Mad Season
-The Camera Eye
-Window in the Skies
-White Room

I had some others but I forget. Feel free to suggest some or to name the artists of the tracks. Or to tell me my choices would make lame episode titles.

Just to use up a bit more space, here's a photo of my badass Atrus action figure.
